Lifetime Achievement
"Wow! Thanks so very much for a tremendous honor." Those were the words of Pete Lyons when he received the news that he is the 2011 recipient of the International Automotive Media Award for Lifetime Achievement.
As a youngster, Pete Lyons was introduced to motor sports by his father, Ozzie Lyons, for years the USA correspondent for Autosport magazine. Eventually, Pete began shooting and writing for that British bible too. Gradually, but inevitably, covering motor sports became a career.
Pete reported on the major North American events for Autosport, including the Can-Am series from 1966 to 1974. Expanding his venues, Pete spent four years as F1 correspondent for Autosport and Autoweek. After 3-1/2 years as on-staff editor of a US racing monthly, he decided to become a freelancer once again. Today he contributes to a wide variety of automotive publications. Also, Pete is the award-winning author of nine books, several of which are on the Can-Am series.
As engrossed as he is in the world of motor sports, his interests also include racing cars, riding motorcycles, and flying planes. Pete lives in Southern California with his wife, Lorna Fitts Lyons, and their cat.
